Confessions of a Mask is a deeply personal, truly confessional book, as the title implies. It feels less like you are reading a novel than the protagonist's diary. My guess is that the first person account is really the thinly fictionalized life experience of the author Yukio Mishima, whose life parallels that of the main character of this book/5(35).
